Top 5 Favorite Local Gems for Moms to Get Out & Explore Winston-Salem

Calling all Winston-Salem moms, this post is for you! Here are some of our favorite spots in Winston that are great for both parents and kids alike.

Among the many important lessons we’ve learned as moms, one at the top of our list is the importance of getting out of the house. The days and weeks can really blur together if you don’t plan some fun outings. Whether you’re on maternity leave or have a weekend free to explore, Winston has so much to offer! There are lots of options for outings that will provide you with some sunshine, fresh air, a tasty treat, and most important in our book – some adult interaction with other like-minded moms! These are some of our favorite spots in Winston that’ll make the 30-45 minutes of packing up allll the baby/kid gear and the trek (believe us, we get it!) totally worth your while.

1.) The Porch

The Porch is super family friendly and there’s lots of space for kids to run around while you wait for some delicious Mexican faire. The kids are sure to love the rocking horses. Not to mention, parents can enjoy their impressive variety of delicious margaritas! We also highly recommend The Porch for a weekend brunch with your mom squad – babies in tow.

2.) Kaleidium North

Kaleidium North Children’s Museum is great to activate your little ones’ minds and senses! Here you’ll find lots of fun science experiments, nature trails and butterfly gardens to explore, and even live animals to see. The Planetarium shows are sure to spark your child’s interest, too. Be sure to follow them for their calendar of monthly events!

3.) Buie’s Market

We love Buies Market! In fact, it’s where we meet our friends and neighbors almost daily! Part grocery store, part bar, part outdoor play area — they even have a fun Smoodi machine where you can make your own smoothies. And the popcicle and ice cream options for your kids (or yourself!) are endless. Buie’s hosts weekly wine and beer tastings, bring in local delicious food trucks and plan seasonal events for the whole family. They have an on-site wine/beer guru who is constantly sourcing the best booze. Their produce is from local farms and several of the goodies on the shelves are NC-made. The staff get to know you and are always welcoming to kids!

Side note Mom to Mom: our advice is to find your neighborhood spot. It may be Southside Beer Garden or Acadia Foods in Washington Park // the Lowe’s on Robinhood // West Salem Public House/Sayso Coffee in West Salem // Stella Brew or Fancy Groceries in Ardmore…whatever your neighborhood, find that spot and go once a week to keep bumping into familiar faces and meeting new neighbors.

4.) Old Salem Museum & Gardens

Old Salem is a must on the bucket list! Walk around the historic neighborhood, explore the beautiful gardens and learn about Winston-Salem’s fascinating history. Be sure to stop at Winkler Bakery for some sugar bread or classic Moravian cookies! And stand on the grounds of the original Krispy Kreme donut factory. You’re sure to appreciate this step back in time.

5.) Penny Path Cafe and Crepe Shop + A Walk Around Reynolda Village

Penny Path Cafe and Crepe Shop is right in the heart of Reynolda Village and is a perfect stop for a sweet or savory treat with your little ones before walking through the beautiful Reynolda Gardens. The portion sizes won’t leave you hungry and the your stroller cup holder is just calling for one of their iced chai lattes. While you’re strolling around the Village, we definitely recommend a quick walk through McCalls for an adorable outfit for your little one’s next special occasion.

BONUSMom’s Spa Day Getaway at The Tiny Spa

The Tiny Spa is the perfect escape for moms to get some “me time” and bask in the glory of a much-deserved spa treatment. Upon walking in, you’ll immediately feel a calming sense of zen. Whether it’s a massage, a facial or any of the other specialty spa treatments The Tiny Spa offers, we promise you won’t regret it!
