Never have bored kids again! Here's our round-up of "family-friendly" fun in and around Winston-Salem. These activities and events are geared towards the younger crowd, though hopefully it's enjoyable for the whole family.

Weekly Happenings

Monday

  • Virtual Storytime via Malloy/Jordan East from 10:30-11 am. Sign up here.

Tuesday

  • Book Babies Storytime at Central Library at 10 am. For ages birth to 18 months. Join us on the patio. (starting September 6)
  • Family Storytime at Lewisville Branch Library from 10-10:30 am. Join for stories, fingerplays, songs, and activities.
  • Innovation Station at Kaleideum North at 10:30 am. Explore engineering and new technology through hands-on activities. Included with museum admission.
  • Music and Movement at Central Library at 11 am for ages 2-6. Join for songs, dancing, and stories!
  • TeenGen Cooking at Minnie Lee Davis Harris Community Center at 5 pm. A hands on cooking and life skill class until November 22. $5/person. Call 336-727-2891 for questions.

Wednesday 

  • Storytime at Paddison Memorial Branch Library (10-10:30 am) Join Miss Stefanie for stories, singing, and more. For ages 3-6.
  • Toddler In-Person or Virtual Storytime via Central Library from 10-10:30 am. To participate virtually, go here.
  • Animal Encounter (11:30 am) at Kaleideum North. Included with museum admission.
  • Curiosity Cart at Kaleideum North at 10:30 am. Spark your curiosity through arts and crafts, museum collections, science, and more.
  • STEAM for Teens at Central Library from 5-6 pm. Learn how to build creations out of various materials to take home in the Makerspace.
  • Kids in the Kitchen at Sedge Garden Community Center from 5:30-6:30 pm. Ages 7-12. $30 per child (includes food). Call 336-650-7694 for more info.

Thursday

  • Storytime at Everyone’s Playground (King, NC) at 10:30 am Join library staff each Friday for a fun story time filled with picture book readings, sing alongs, and crafts at everyone’s favorite playground!
  • Curiosity Cart at Kaleideum North at 10:30 am. Spark your curiosity through arts and crafts, museum collections, science, and more.
  • Barnes & Noble Storytime at 11 am. Join for a storytime adventure every Friday.
  • Animal Encounter at Kaleideum North at 11:30 am. Included with museum admission.

Saturday

  • Science Live at Kaleideum North (11 am) Included with museum admission.
  • Animal Encounter at Kaleideum North (11:30 am). Included with museum admission
  • YASS Kids Club: Volunteer at Fairytale Farm Animal Sanctuary and do real farmwork! All ages welcome (8 and under are required to have an adult). Sign up here.

November 4

  • Exploding Pumpkins at Cognition Davie from 4-5 pm for 3rd-6th graders. Bring your old pumpkin and dispose of them with science! ($10)

November 5

  • Storytime at 4th of July Park at 10 am.  Join for stories, singing, dancing, and coloring. For ages 0-8. 
  • Movies for Teens at Central Library from 2-5 pm for ages 12-18. Program waiver required to enjoy refreshments. 
  • Pokémon in the Park at Miller Park Shelter #4 from 11 am-2 pm. 
  • Día De Los Muertos Storytime at Kaleideum North at 11 am. Bilingual storytime. (FREE with admission)
  • Telescope Workshop at Kaleideum North from 1-4 pm. Helpful advice about telescopes, astronomy apps, and resources for any budding amateur astronomer.

November 6

  • TOAST (Totally Outstanding Awesome Stroll through Tanglewood) from 5:30-10 pm. Families can walk, stroll, or take a wagon through the majestic lights. ($50/car)
  • Family First: Potato Print Workshop at Reynolda House Studios from 2-4 pm. For grades 1-6 and their favorite adult. Register here. ($30 for adult/child pair)
  • Take Care with Dr. Ricks at Kaleideum North from 1:30-3:30 pm. Draw or write something that makes you upset, then release those feelings by putting it in the shredder; open to all ages.

November 7

  • Preschool Exploration at Central Library from 10-11:30 am. Children ages 3-6 will be able to enjoy different centers with their caregivers at their own pace. 
  • Teen Lego Club at Paddison Library in Kernersville from 4-5 pm for ages 12-18. Come build LEGO projects based on a monthly theme.

November 8

  • Storytime in the Garden at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden from 10-11 am. Stories, songs, and activities for ages 6 and under. Register here.
  • STEM Day at Kaleideum North from 9-5 pm. Learn about STEM leaders with themed activities. (FREE with admission)
  • Homeschool Day: Marvelous Matter, Mixtures, and More at Kaleideum North from 1:30-2:30 pm. Register here:

November 9

  • Salem Lake Nature Kids at 10 am for children 5 & under. Go outside, enjoy crafts & games, and learn about wildlife! To register call: 336-650-7677. ($15 per child) 
  • Moms Morning Meetup at Cognition Davie from 9-11:30 am. Make new mom friends and enjoy coffee while the kiddos play! ($5 per person)
  • A Taste of Science: Perfect Pies at Cognition Davie from 4-5:30 pm. Open to 2nd-5th graders. Learn to bake some Pies! ($10)
  • After School Club at Four at Malloy/Jordan Heritage Center at 4 -5 pm. This month’s lesson: money management. 
  • Games for Teens at Central Library from 5-7 pm for ages 12-18. Drop in to play card, board, and video games together.

  • Parents’ Night Out: Blast Off at Kaleideum North from 5:30-8:30 pm for ages 6-11. Space themed crafts, planetarium show, pizza, and snacks! ($25/members or $30/non-members)
  • Games for Teens at Central Library from 2-4 pm for ages 12-18 . Drop in to play cards, board, and video games together.
  • Parents and Toddlers: Pick-Your-Own Leaf Wreath at Piedmont Environmental Center from 10-11 am for ages 3-5 . Take a walk, collect leaves, then make a wreath!
  • Genetic Counselor Awareness Day at Kaleideum North from 10 am-2 pm for all ages. Learn about genetics and heredity.  (Free with museum admission.)
  • Little Innovators: It’s Fall Y’all for PreK from 11:30-12:30. Learn about leaves, use microscopes, and make fall creations. Register here. ($5-8 per child/parent pair)

  • Friday Family Film at Lewisville Library from 3:30-6 pm. Showing Downton Abbey: a New Era. Rated PG. 
  • Homeschool Event: Blast Off for 3rd-8th graders at Cognition Davie from 10-11:30 am. Students will learn about our solar system while having fun in “space.” Register here. ($8/student)
  • Reynolda Read Aloud at Reynolda House Museum for pre-readers from 10-10:30 am. Join for stories, songs, fingerplay, and activities to do at home. Register here. (FREE)

  • Thanksgiving Drive-In Bingo at Bolton Park at 2 pm. Family fun for all ages, games and prizes!
  • Reynolda Village Holiday Stroll at Reynolda Village from 3-6 pm. Enjoy carolers, free carriage rides, and the beautiful decorations throughout the Village.
  • Teen Anime Club at Central Library for ages 12-18 from 2-3 pm. Learn to write your own dialog for an anime clip.
