Looking for adventure within an hour and a half drive? We've rounded up our top picks for the best places to camp, each spot offering a variety of amenities and proximity to nature. While there are many excellent spots nearby, these 5 stood out as for their beauty and range of offerings. Now get out and enjoy nature!

1.) Oak Hollow Campground

High Point, NC

Oak Hollow Campground is open year round and gives campers the ideal place to relax among the water and the trees. The campground is located within the 1,550 acre Oak Hollow Park and offers over 100 RV sites and 13 tent platforms. Many of the campsites border the shores of Oak Hollow Lake, and every site has a picnic table and grill. With plenty of amenities such as a pool, bathhouses, a playground, fishing and boathouses, this campground offers the perfect little getaway that’s not too far from home. 2.) Hanging Rock State Park

Danbury, NC 

Hanging Rock State Park is one our favorite destinations for camping because it offers a variety of activities that can keep you busy for your entire stay. At Hanging Rock, campers can enjoy 20+ miles of hiking trails, beautiful waterfalls and rock outcroppings, swimming, boating, fishing, and more. Hanging Rock has 73 tent and trailer campsites, plus it also has cabin rentals available. It is important to note that not all campsites have identical amenities, so make sure to read the campsite information on the website to find out about what amenities are available for your specific site, and you must have a reservation to camp. More information is available here.

3.) Hagan Stone Park

Pleasant Garden, NC 

Hagan Stone Park is a scenic 409 acre wildlife refuge and recreational facility with campsites for RVs, trailers, motor homes and tents. This park has something for everyone, and it offers a variety of recreational activities from an aquatic center to playgrounds and hiking trails. Group camping is also available, and each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. Amenities such as bathhouses are also nearby. 4.) Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park

Asheboro, NC 

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Campground is a really fun place to bring the kids, since they offer a unique themed camping experience and many activities to choose from. With 100 miles of hiking/biking trails, a swimming pool, stocked fishing ponds, jumping pillows and more, it’s full of fun – plus it’s less than 3 miles from the NC Zoo! The campground has cabin rentals, RV sites and tent sites, so you can pick your level of glamping. 5.) Fancy Gap/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA

Fancy Gap, VA 

Located on the top of Fancy Gap Mountain in Virginia, you can find this serene campground that has become a favorite for travelers and adventurers of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Located only about an hour away from Winston-Salem, you can’t beat a getaway here to the beautiful mountains where you can immerse yourself in nature while being close to some amazing scenery and attractions. The campground itself offers a variety of activities, such as a swimming pool, fishing ponds, and hiking trails, along with other amenities such as a clubhouse, bathhouses, and dog park.
