The West End is the neighborhood most directly bordering downtown, with houses covering the hills leading away from the main hub of downtown Winston-Salem. The historic neighborhood is known for its stately, quirky homes and mixed-style houses, some of which have been converted into apartments and condos. Recently, more businesses have opened up in the West End, so it has become even more of a destination.

Best spot to take out-of-towners, especially those new to the South. Get the fried pickles and spicy collards. The meatloaf is shockingly good as well.
A restaurant that has taken over the former First Street Draught House building at the intersection of Hawthorne Rd. and First Street. This “chicken shack” has a simple menu with three chicken sandwich options, nuggets, and wings. They also have slaw, fries, and salad for sides.
